Cathryn True Varlet, (Mrs. T.V!), though a native of Carmel, lived in Hawaii several years, and traveled to Mexico, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. She has been a teacher all her life, as well as an “artist”, bringing a passion for creativity, in all its forms of expression, into her venue as an educator, whether in the academic field or the arts. Credentialled and experienced in teaching Kindergarten through College, she has a great love for music, drama, musical theatre, dance, film, writing, in all its forms, as well as the graphic arts, and been a featured “Artist in the Schools” in the Monterey Peninsula Unified Schools, offering “Exploring Musical Theatre” and “Exploring Watercolor Painting”. Her life experience, therefore, has spanned being, not only a teacher, but a professional musician, keyboardist, singer-songwriter, along with recording her own original music and instructional vocal technique tape with book, entitled, “Freeing Your Natural Song”, for singing practice. She has performed in and directed musicals, music and dance concerts, festivals, and performed live on the radio, and on television with her husband, Julian, a guitarist-songwriter and bass player. Cathryn loves to sing, write music, poetry, dance, choreograph movement, plays piano, keyboards, orchestrates with synthesizer, and plays guitar, ukulele and recorder. With such a love for the arts, and wealth and breadth of experience, Cathryn easily weaves her creative giftings into whatever classroom she finds herself in. Her travel experience has also greatly enriched and broadened her world-view. Currently she’s writing a book and screenplay and offers private lessons and group classes in the creative arts, as well as summer camps for the full gamut of age groups, children to adults, which explore their creative interests and develop their creative giftings and feature her original musicals. Cathryn offers services through her own music business, Heartstreams Music. She holds both Standard Clear Elementary and Secondary Teaching Credentials from Cal State University, Hayward, a Master’s Degree in Voice & Music Composition from Mills College, and an Associate of Arts Degree in Drama from Monterey Peninsula College.
