Constructivism
Oasis Charter Public School’s philosophy is based on the Constructionist Theory. Constructivist theory explains learning as a process of taking new information gained through experience and adapting existing ideas in order to construct new knowledge. The theory states that individuals are constantly learning through the processes of assimilation and accommodation. What humans learn is directly influenced by their stage of development as well as by the people, materials, and experiences they have.

Dear Oasis Community,
I am delighted to serve as Oasis’ new Executive Director. Oasis is a very special school with a very special mission…preparing our students for their best future through a constructivist approach. Teaching our students how they can contribute to a better world through thinking big and being excellent communicators is more important than ever!
Throughout my career, I have been committed to providing the best education for students. Over the years, I have worked as a classroom teacher, a principal, a district office administrator and a charter school leader. I worked at Ceiba Public Schools in Watsonville, also a single-site charter school, for five years before retiring in 2020 as the Executive Director.
A little more about me:
- I have two grown children who live in the Bay Area: one in Oakland and one nearby in Santa Cruz
- While I grew up in San Francisco, I lived in Mexico for a year when I was 14 years old. This was a life-changing experience for me that has deeply enriched my life. I learned what it’s like to learn a second language and to live in a new country!
- In my time off, I like to volunteer, play music and do homework! As you get to know me, you’ll see that I am a lifelong learner. I am currently in my last year of an online Master of Social Work program. What I am learning completely ties in with my work in schools.
Being at Oasis is literally a “dream come true” for me. I love working in schools, especially charter schools where we work together to achieve the dream of:
- A sense of well-being, belonging and safety
- Students achieving their fullest potential as learners
- A warm and happy school community
Please stop in to meet me and connect. I look forward to getting to know you and to learning everything about our school community. I also look forward to working together for a happy, productive school year.
Enjoy the summer break and see you soon!

What Parents are Saying
Oasis has brought peace to our family, is small enough that our kids are able to learn at their own pace. The school teaches them dance, art, robotics, cooking and many other skills that are not offered in other schools.
Love this “little school” my daughter started there as part of their two year kindergarten program with Teacher Rhoda and she is hands down amazing! By the end of the first year of kindergarten she was proficient in all skills to move to 1st grade.
One thing that Oasis stands out from such is their focus in the whole child. They are concerned about the child feeling comfortable, competent and safe. Academics is always a concern for all educational programs but shouldn’t be the only thing to focus on.
