Annie Millar is a long-time educator who has worked in public schools as a classroom teacher, a charter school administrator and, in traditional public schools, as a site and district office administrator. Her most recent position was as the Executive Director of Ceiba Public Schools in Watsonville, a grades 6-12 charter school with a mission of supporting students in “getting to and through college”. Prior to that, she served as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction in Healdsburg Unified School District in Sonoma County. She has worked previously in Sonoma, Contra Costa and San Francisco Counties. She is committed to a constructivist approach with the goals of integrating academic skills, building real-world connections and engaging students’ hearts and minds in their learning. Annie attended sixth grade in Mexico and became fluent in Spanish. She has a particular commitment to students who thrive in small, alternative environments and to students who are learning English as a second language.  After school and on weekends, you can find Annie playing music, practicing yoga, and doing her homework. She is two thirds of the way through completing a Master of Social Work with an online program at the University of Montana. This second Master’s Degree has influenced her work as a school administrator in the areas of advocating for well-being, supporting students and families through challenges and working for a better world.

Lauren Ricker

Lauren Ricker

Instructional Coordinator

After graduating from Humboldt State with a BA in elementary education,  Lauren moved back to the central coast to attend CSU Monterey Bay for the teaching credential program. She taught K-3 in Soledad for 13 years and then had the opportunity to become an academic coach for Ord Terrace in Seaside. Lauren coached teachers on curriculum and behavior and analyzed data to differentiate instruction. She also created and led professional development sessions on-site and for the district. Lauren became involved in the MPUSD Teachers’ Association and was elected president in 2019.  Negotiating COVID policies and the uncertainty of reopening, Lauren grew as a leader and was humbled by listening to concerns. At the end of her term, the team had negotiated safe reopening procedures with the support staff and the Human Resources department.  When Lauren learned of Oasis and the constructivist approach to learning (from one of our teachers who had worked with her), she knew this was where she wanted her career to move. Seeing just how positive and excited Oasis students are to attend school breathed new excitement into Lauren. “I am grateful for this opportunity and excited to keep the positive momentum going! ” Lauren also has a deep understanding and experience with neurodivergent students and a passion for the outdoors.
